Fairytale of Something or Other

Well, I’m going into my fourth week of teaching and I would say it stopped being a fairytale about 3 hours into my day.
I love, love, love, love my kids. I teach 4th grade at an engineering school in Englewood. There are 25 kids in my class, all of them bright and sweet and funny and fabulous. Unfortunately, institute left me absolutely and completely unprepared to deal with classroom management. I had a pretty mellow class there: 15 kids, all pretty easy, and there was an experienced teacher in the back always willing to step in and a collab in the back always able to handle side issues. Now that there’s 25 of them and one of me and no one to clean up my behavior messes, the whole classroom is a little off the walls. I am absolutely certain that, at some point in my teaching career, probably fairly quickly, I will regret ever calling my blog a fairytale.  Foolish idealism aside, however, I like the imagery.
